			Hi all,

Can anyone help me with this? I'm a little confused... This photo is labeled: Lieutenant-Colonel L.D. McGee of No.5 Armoured Brigade Workshop, Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (R.C.E.M.E.), Italy, 1944 (Library and Archives Canada) Can anyone identify the cap badge and sleeve insignias? I am expecting to see a rectangular maroon patch (5th Armoured Division) on the sleeve, and the standard 3 shielded RCEME badge: Am I missing something, or do I just not understand the Canadian army insignias yet? Thank you! |

Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineers, 1st Canadian Army. Rank is Lieutenant Colonel. Ribbons are 1939-45 Star and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal.

Still a bit puzzled about the cap badge though. I don't think that I have seen that one anywhere else. |

Canadian RCEME did not form until May of 1944. Prior to that they were part of the ordnance corps. And with the war on it may have been a while before the badges made it out to everyone.

I cannot make out the hat-badge either. |

In 1944, it was still called the 39-43 star. It would be renamed the 39-45 Star at the end of the war.

The badge on his beret looks like the original REME one with 4 shields.
