Faded Markings

Does anyone want to hazard a guess as to what this word on my glacious plate says?

To me the letters i can make out are

W I _ _ E R _ _ _ _ ........

Although I could be mistaken of course, but there is no denying the first letter is "W"

Where exactly on the carrier is the marking? Do you know where has the carrier has been? (ie. only in Canada? Europe? Some post war user?)

I ask because there was an example of a carrier a few years ago (see attached) that had all the stowage stenciled in white, similar to the black stenciling used on the inside of tanks. At the time, there was some discussion whether these marks were factory applied (hence ALL restored carriers should have them) or if they were applied some time later. I sense they are a post-war thing. But, back to your question, if your stencil is a 'stowage' marking, knowing what should be at that location may shed some light.

As I said it is on the glacious plate(upper nose) of a Canadian MK 2. I think Brad nailed it, that sounds feasable. Has anyone seen winterized on a carrier before?

If the suggestion of Winterized is correct, I think there is some more after the word, possibly the temperature to which it was winterized?

My carrier had all the stowage places stencilled and it was definitly not done post war. John

Do you think they were factory applied or at some depot before issue?

My take on it would be post war while the vast number of vehicles were in storage and lovingly cared for until needed again or someone figured out what to do with all the surplus.

The Norwegian carrier with all the stencils marked on it that Bruce posted a photo of may have been stenciled as to point out to the new owners what everything was for. Was there not a drive on selling equipment close to or at the end of the war to countries such as China, Norway, Belgium etc.? Or was that just Foreign aid?

My Mk11* is fully stenciled up as well.

Most surviving British sourced Mk11* Carriers came out of crates post-war suggesting a factory application.

Perhaps it was just for carriers produced on British contracts.
