I ask because there was an example of a carrier a few years ago (see attached) that had all the stowage stenciled in white, similar to the black stenciling used on the inside of tanks. At the time, there was some discussion whether these marks were factory applied (hence ALL restored carriers should have them) or if they were applied some time later. I sense they are a post-war thing. But, back to your question, if your stencil is a 'stowage' marking, knowing what should be at that location may shed some light.
My carrier had all the stowage places stencilled and it was definitly not done post war. John
