Default 6 pounder restoration

Gents, I'm currently restoring a 6 pdr anti tank gun, I want to ask if anyone has ever split the trailing arms before and removed from the axle assembly?, there is a flanged nut, item 32 in the attachéd picture, held in place by 3 locking grub screws, has anyone removed this before?, mine will rotate only about half an inch then it's stuck fast, I could apply lots of heat but wanted to ask first.

Thanks in advance Kevin.

Default let me know how it goes

Hi Kevin, I'm up to that part also. Have been procrastinating for a month or more. I would assume that it may need plenty of penetrating oil as its a pretty fine thread ( from memory ) let me know how sucessfull you are.

When you need the penetrating oil look up "Ed's Red" basically 50% acetone and 50% ATF

Kevin,

The last original one on eBay sold for a whopping GBP 284.

Buy a repro for working on the gun and keep your eyes open for an original. They don't come up often so could take a while.

Cheers,

Looking at the gun pintle mount, I think at some stage during it's life since 1943 the guns saddle pintle had been removed before, as there is a other set of locking screw holes been drilled, perhaps when the guns left the Netherlands to the Israel army ?. It's most certainly been stripped before.

Kevin, yes its much more fun to have the original manuals.
I normally also try to find the original manuals, and then copy them so I can bring it to the work shop.
we need pictures of the Aston Martin...

Nope Shaun. It was the big manual, not the SATP one.
