Can't read the W/D number, unfortunately, but look at that star! Hanno, I presume this is 1CACR? I reckon there's going to be a certain 15cwt in Holland sporting certain markings soon... ![]()

About the only feature that's not fuzzy and indistinct is the silhouette of the rear diff. It shows a step consistant with the Ford rear diff where the axle tube is rivetted into the cast housing. The Chev rear axle was pressed steel and wouldn't have this step. Unless, of course, it was one of the very small number of vehicles (Ford or Chev) that was fitted with the Chev cast axle.
Compare the profile of the front axle on this Ford to the profile of the rear in your pic, Hanno. See the step? |

Looks like a Ford to me too - the battery box, step, tie rod and as Jif pointed out, placement of the mirror arm.

So Geoff, you're right in reckoning there's going to be a certain 15cwt in Holland sporting certain markings... And oh, Rolf, you just go into the barn counting cylinders and wonder why your truck has two less than a real one ![]() Cheers, Hanno |

I'd like to add my 2 cents to the Ford/Chev debate that will always go on.
Seems like here in Manitoba, we only find CMP Fords, while in Ontario, Chevs seem to be the norm. I believe the reasons for this are as follows; in Ontario, the rust problem is so great that the Ford's, which would have kept on running forever otherwise, have all disentegrated beyond repair. The chev's, on the other hand, leak so much oil out of that puny 216, that they were afforded some measure of rust protection. Combine that with the likelihood that the engine probably died in the 50s on the Chev, and you have a vehicle in Ontario thats still a candidate for restoration. Meanwhile, here in Manitoba, the Ford's just kept on running, while the Chevs and their underpowered hamster cages, all headed to the scrapyards back in the early 60s. Either that, or the army, in it's infinite wisdom and vision, moved all the Ford's to safety in Manitoba, recognising the Chev's ability to self-rust protect. Just food for thought. Oh, and by the way, I''ve had probably a dozen CMPs/carriers over the years, but have never found a Chev that was even remotely restorable. Hopefully my theories can put to rest this Ford/chev bickering that seems to go on forever. Sorry in advance to the chev owners if I have offended them. |

Hanno, you are likely right. Kind of seems a blackmark on Canada's reputation to leave the Chev's behind and yet take credit for it as military aid. Kind of like buying something on a "buy one, get another one of lessor value free" deal, and giving the lessor one to someone for a wedding gift; you still get the credit for giving it, but it likely won't be around too long.
