Default Studies in use in the 70s

I'd been meaning to post a link to these photos for a while.

These photos are from a bloke on AULRO who was in the Transport Corps (monash Regiment) between 1970 and 73. The photos have a lot of accos, landies and studies in them, even a CMP in one photo.

the one in this photo is the same vehicle that is now in bandiana.

Default cmp

Richard , the CMP in the previous picture looks like a cut down C15A Wireless Van .
Note the shape of the rear mudgaurd and the tool box half covering the fuel tank .
Do you know why it was cut down like this ?
Regards
Jim S.

Default Excellent!

Not a lot of photos from that interesting time either. I particularly like the Studebaker images.

They were an intrepid bunch obviously having a huge time!

Yes, that Chev CMP does look like a cut down sigvan, from the shape of the mudguard to the locker just in front of it.

Not sure why the sigs van was cut down. I notuced the guard shape and wondered what variant it was (I guess that answers the question as to what). I'll have to ask the fella that took the photos about it.

I asked him a while ago if he had a higher resolution shot of it because I was trying to see if either of the land rover ambulances were my one, there wasn't that many of them after all

Basically the vehicle was on record as a "training module" the idea being we had it as a training aid and rolled it down hills etc to train on winching etc. In reality we used it to train drivers, if you could manage the gears in a Blitz then a Rover was easy, even a Studebaker.
There is your answer

Default Bandiana Studi

Thanks for the Photos Phoenix. I will make sure that the Studi in the Museum gets new Tac Signs and markings to match the pictures.

Default Depot

The Monash Uni regiment had their depot down the end of Ferntree Gully road , in East Oakleigh . I used to drive past it in the mid 70's and see the vehicles lined up . Apparently the Blitz was there for ages . A VMVC club member lived virtually next to it .
The local army reserve unit here in Warragul still had a White Scout car in the vehicle park in the late 1970's , they used it as a training aid for recovery exercises .

Default Warragul White

Here's a pic of one of them I took in 1974. Looks like it was used pretty hard!

Korumburra also had a pair, around the same time:

And a few more pics here.

I should talk to you about your land rover ambulance then, i'm pretty sure that one has teh wrong ARN number, or at least it doesn't match the arn's that I have for (as far as I know) all the series 2 and 2a ambulances

Default Rover Ambo

Mate, if you want to talk about the Rover Ambo then feel free. We use the plates that come on the vehicle when we get them. If you can verify that the ARN is completely wrong for that family of vehicles let me know.
We are only human, (well, some of us) and we (they) do make mistakes, but if there is any information that can increase the accuracy of our displays it can only make our museum better.
None of us there are closed to the idea of outside assistance. So if you can send me a PM with the ARN of the ambo and verify it we will change that too.

Ok, some more info and pics of the studie.

Quote:
169 139.
She was fully reconditioned by us over the years, the parts were still available in the early 70's, absolutely everything except Dizzy caps, but we fitted a new complete motor anyway.(pic) I remember fitting new headlamps marked "packed for the tropics" they sure were, took me longer to clean them that fit them.
It also got resprayed by one of the troops who was a spray painter.
In a way it became a bit of a mascot, and it could out perform anything else we had.
We looked after it too well, as word got thru to a Captain at Bandiana and he started demanding it for the museum. Thereafter a game of cat and mouse ensued, in which we could only lose. The Studie was "hosted" at a number of drivers properties whilst a Wrecker scouted about trying to locate it.
This went on for quite a while, and I guess we got used to the idea of losing it, plus we respected his enthusiasm.
I remember going down to Seymour and "collecting" its winch off another vehicle destined for the Auctions.

A couple more photos to add

I'm seeing if the damage to the image is the original photo or the scan of them.

Also this one which David (the photographer) had that his mother took. He thinks that it is returning troops from the Middle East. It is in Swanston St ashe recognised the town Hall. Can anybody confirm this?
