Hi Andrew, awesome work on the halftrack....just curious being in Ontario, why US reg numbers not Canadian? Reason I ask is I am considering putting USA markings on one of my vehicles as well

Thanks John,
As to the USA ident, I had a few ask me that question. During my research, no M4A1s were given to allied during the war. Also, under lend lease no white halftracks were given to Canadians, the internationals were, m5 and m9s. I was lucky enough that the ord number was stamped on my frame. In the end i wanted more original looking. During the war you will see pics of Canadians and British in USA marked white halftracks, but i can only assume that was loaned/given in the theater of war? Also, Americans had a different ord system than Canadians so knowing my number played a part. And lastly, they all had the stars anyway (allied), the only difference would be the ord number on the hood and squad markings on bumpers

About a year ago, I ran across some Lend Lease Records from the first part of the war that listed equipment shipped out of the USA to various allies. Included was a very small batch of White Halftracks to Canada. The number would have been no where near enough to equip a fighting force, but may have come up to Canada somewhere for training purposes. The record did not provide a detailed delivery point, only the recipient country. I wonder if they could have gone to Borden?

Andrew.
The reference was indeed to half-tracks. The White Scout Car was probably also listed in the report, I just wasn't looking for that item at that time. I have now posted a link to the Lend Lease Report in a new thread in the WW2 History forum, if you want to go into it for a look see. Cheers, David |
