Wow. Surprised to see one of these surplussed already. Seems like we just got them yesterday....

Ha ha Scotty, that is a sign of old age. Please don't ask me how I know. I was still calling the MLVW "new deuce" as we were sending them off for dismantling.

Marc: If that trailer were here in Manitoba, I think I would nickle you down a bit (I am after all a Manitoban, and we make the Scots look generous) and take it. But I have no trips to Ontario/Quebec planned in the foreseeable future.

Rob your comment makes me laugh.

A friend of mine said the other day " you know your old when the vehicles you once worked on are now gate guardians at the local base",

I also am surprised that it has been declared surplus

There's no newer deuce that I know of in place so aren't you are still at least part right?

I was right back in the mid 80s. By 87 the last of them were gone. Nowadays most of the guys have never heard of the term "deuce".

Interesting to note that when the old M135s were retired in the mid 80s, they ranged from 29 to 33 years old. The MLVW fleet is now 31 to 32 years old and the replacements for the regular force trucks has still not been chosen yet as far as I know. They could well hit 38 by the time the new vehicles are fielded.

Coming in behind them is the HLVW, now at 25 years old. They were great trucks in their day, but are really showing signs of their age now.

So, I would suppose, that due to the age of many MLU members, that many are due to be "surplussed/scrapped/retired" as well......
