1/6th scale 25-pdr
Well, an Armortek 1/6th scale 25-pdr is about as close to owning the real thing as I'll ever (want to) get. Easier to display, too, as it fits the side board in my office!
The metal model comes with a barrel fitted with a muzzle brake as standard, but wanting to end up with a model representing an Australian WW2-period 25-pdr, I measured the guns at Murgon and Tiaro in Qld. A friend in NZ then drew up the barrel at scale, and another friend in England manufactured the scale barrel. Assembly was in the USA, so quite an international effort. The model also comes standard with a smooth recoil mechanism more akin to the welded version, so I added rivets along the sides and underside to simulate the more common riveted version. Armourpax produce an after-market details kit for the model, some of which I added. The resin castings of the trail spikes that come with that kit were not straight, however, so I'm having a set of steel spikes turned up, and will place those in the stowage brackets in a week or so. After that, I will apply a set of appropriate markings to the shield and call it done. I'm no expert scale modeler, but the result looks reasonably good, I think. Now back to the intricacies of the Ford GP! Mike |

That really looks handsome, great piece to own and nicely detailed to your version in Australia. How do you like the tires / tyres?
Are you tempted to buy anything else from them?

Thanks Robin.
Their range of tanks is beyond my level of interest (and expertise!), but they produce a nice Bailey Bridge which has stirred my interest. Problem would be where to put it once built. The tires/tyres are like much of the model: representative. They are solid rubber with a sharp, square edge and not much tread depth, so give a reasonable impression of the real thing, rather than being a true scale replica. Mike |

It's only money .... 'made round to go round' as my grandfather used to say!
But you have to admit, it is a very good looking model Bailey Bridge. Mike |
