Hi,
I got this lens with my HUP and am wondering what type and what its use is. Is it missing the blackout cover, or is it some other type? Cheers! |

Marty,
I think that this is a blackout lamp that used to have a slit with a hood in the top half but a lift up semi-circular cover covering the bottom half for running under non blackout conditions. David |

This also means that I have two different types of blackout lenses/covers. I also have the one with only the slit in the top half. Thanks! |

The glass lens is the remains of the late WW2 blackout shield that allowed for both blackout and headlight use with a rotating half-circle. Very useful for modern use. The other shield is the standard early shield. I have both styles available.

Based on your photo, Brian, the lens in Marty’s truck needs to be rotated 180 degrees to get the headlamp portion to the bottom of the assembly and the more diffuse blackout portion to the top.

David: Yes the glass on Marty's truck is mounted upside-down.

This headlight surfaced when a C15A was recovered by Morten Grorud in Norway recently.
Can anyone ID it? It was suggested this is a Ford light. 249494227_10226746999649461_8453596209558112595_n.jpg 250010099_10226746998609435_841955855955889177_n.jpg Details of the subject C15A: 249058799_10226746996609385_7348944638845242515_n.jpg 249222878_10226746997249401_5124385395646139237.jpg 250113756_10226746993529308_3260716581013077814_n.jpg

This looks like a lens for the late style dual purpose blackout/driving light.
The blackout shield that's supposed to be on there has a rotatable piece to block light if blackout driving is required. See: Lens Identification 8A3B1E5A-1DE7-459C-B729-E1A13773A5B2 (1).jpg (Photo by Brian Asbury) Last edited by M.Morren; 29-10-21 at 01:58. |

Thanks Marty. So the light still has part of a blackout shield attached? The broad rim is what confused me.

It does look like that is the case. I do not own the shield itself, so I don't know how many parts it has, and how many parts are missing on mine and the one pictured in your first post.
