It's been a tough MV season since selling the MK2/3 Ferret but have now acquired a 1942 M3A1 White Scout Car. Although still with the mechanic getting it certified, I expect/hope to have it out at OMVA Milton. A Big Thanks to Les Fisher who travelled with me to inspect the vehicle and also a Big Thanks to the folks at Fraser Direct in Milton who helped with bringing it home.
Cheers, Terry. |

Well done, Terry!! I think you will find that the White Scout Car is a much easier vehicle to drive. I have owned both as well as a Saracen and a Ford Lynx and the WSC if my favourite drive. In fact we have had chassis no.266617 on the road since 1986 and driven all over eastern Australia to the extent of more than 100,00km. We have worn out one engine, a gearbox and rebuilt both front and rear diffs after failures.
You might find that going back from 4th back to 3rd is a problem if you pull it through without a slight movement of about 1/4 inch to the left in neutral.(The opposite movement to the right from 3rd to 4th is also sometimes needed.) I have driven many and all need that slight left movement. Regards Rick

If all your driving is on the road you will find that they run much better if you remove the front prop shaft. As there is no disconect for 4WD the whole drive line is stressed all the time on the road which is not good for it or for drivability. Even in 2WD they are not bad off road but just don't get it stuck in goo.

I have driven 1000's of miles with only one prop shaft in place. I have found that for windy mountainous country, I drive with the front prop shaft in and none to the rear. The Scout Car drives like a Minny Minor as the front pulls the weight around the corners better than the rear pushing. Ten minutes on the side of the road is all it takes to change over.

Hope that someone here on the forum can help.
I found this previous post/thread (http://www.mapleleafup.net/forums/showthread.php?t=6402) where Jordan Baker was looking for info/details for M3A1 Scout Cars used by Canadians during WW2. Forum member oztankboy (Phil) had replied to Jordan's request by posting a diagram that showed an internal layout but also commented that it came from a Canadian wartime pam (pamphlet?). Jordan asked if a higher resolution version of the diagram was available and recently told me that he never received a follow-up response. I've private messaged oztankboy (Phil) but also no response. I've googled this diagram and the only result I seem to get is one on a model building forum but again with a low resolution image. If anyone here on MLU can help with finding a higher resolution version of this diagram, I would be very appreciative. Cheers, Terry. |

That pamphlet often appears on ebay as a reprint for low money.
Failing that I do have it somewhere... I will look for it at the weekend. Tim |

Found it faster than I expected.
This is the manual the page is from... There are approx. 40 pages and several WS installation variation diagrams. Hope this is a better version of the one you asked about. Though, recommend you get the manual. Tim |

It's taken a while but the wireless 19 set-up in my M3A1 WSC is starting to take shape. Have been gathering bits and pieces for this shortly after acquiring the scout car. Fabricated the aerial brackets last year. Brackets do not interfere with canvas top. Started on the mounting frame back in December and, with a little extra time on my hands because of COVID-19, I now have the set installed. Still missing some cables.

That is a slick looking M3A1, now in true 1st Canadian Corps fashion all you need is a trailer fabricated from a cargo body of a 15 cwt to tow behind it.
