Wanted: Tire vote: New Production 10.50-16 Sand Tires...

Since the R-3 tire that I presented for new production is not as popular (though still included here) as I thought, I have a couple of other thread patterns that I would like to consider for a vote... Unfortunately, without your input this project will go nowhere...

Dimensions/specs are the same as before:

Overall Diameter: 920 mm or 36.25"

Section Width: 254 mm or 10.0"

Sidewall height: 215 mm or 8.46"

Classification: Agriculture-Industrial Equipment/Implement
Construction: Belted Bias-Ply (TL/TT)
Certification: Same as the existing 10:50 x 16 Chevron tires. This is considered an implement/Agricultural tire and therefore not blocked for importation...

WARNING/NOTE: THIS IS NOT a 55-75 MPH HIGHWAY TIRE.

Style/thread pattern: T.B.D.
Ply: 12
Thread Depth: 15/32
Standard Rim - flange: 6.0 - 8.00

Max Load Range: 1399 KG or 3086 LBS
Pressure: 3 - 4.5 Bar (43 - 65 PSI)

Five years down the road and we still don't have a tire that comes even close to the 10.50-16 in size or style...

As I embark again on this venture, I still have the greatest obstacle to the project, proper sized tires with the correct design...
I won't say much more than the fact that I have at least two companies willing to listen, yet the first question always is:

HOW MANY CAN YOU BUY/HOW MANY DO YOU WANT TO BUY???

And my question to this group and anyone with a larger than a 3/4 ton truck, is it worth the $$$ headache and aggravation? Can we get a petition/commitment going? I'm not asking for funds, but only a firm commitment to purchase down the road... Cost will not be any more than the current 10.50-16 tires available...

Barry ring was able to produce the 9.50-16 and 10.50-16 Chevron design, but unfortunately not "correct pattern" for us... I really wished he would have come up with something close in design to what we need after all this time... Not faulting him, his project, period...

As for the actual process, you can produce a tire from scratch, or find a company with the approximate right size (35" tall) casing...
(I have) and I can finish the tire with a strip tread of your choice... This way is cheaper than going about it with a clamshell mold from scratch...

I'm attaching three modern designs, close to what was available in the 40's... Unfortunately these are all 20" tires, and we need them for 16" rims...
Anyway, gentlemen, can you please help with clear opinions/commitment or at least chose a tire design?

Am I really wasting my time trying to make this happen as I get into another project? Yes, there will be another 39 Chev. with the right wheel base this time...

I commend you for trying to find tyres in the exact size and pattern. It can be done by having tyres made to your specification. Barry Ring of Empire Tyres has taken up the gauntlet and is offering various sizes in WW2 patterns to the collectors market. Maybe you can ask him about the viability of your quest?

Otherwise, I would think a BKT AW702 tyre in 10.50-16 size is an acceptable sand type pattern.

Great to hear from you!

I am more than open to ideas and suggestions-always from anyone... As for the BKT AW-702 tire, I just looked at the size chart for a 10.50-16 and it comes to 38-3/8" tall which is too tall for the early WA Chevs. unfortunately....

The tire that that have in mind is roughly a 36" x10" to mirror the original sand tires in size...

Hi Philippe, I commend you for your tenacity! In another message I read you plan to retread a tyre. While that would give you plenty of options for a carcass, the negative side of a retreaded tyre is that the running surface will be flat, as opposed to the original balloon type sand tyre.

I completely understand your point and thought that at least it would be better than nothing... Yet, the new Empire tires are a bit flat, but as I have found the original chevron pattern was also on the flat side, as opposed to the balloon truck/sand tire...
