Mine binds in the same spot on both sides. It seems about 3/4 an inch too long, and wedges in quite solidly.
I did get one measurement from someone else. It matches yours almost perfectly with two exceptions. The small diameter is 1.632 (as opposed to 1.72 in your drawing) and it also has a much larger chamfer at the end. I'll have to get a flashlight into the bore and see whats going on.
