These strip's were a factory modification designed to protect the hull joint which was found to be a weak point if hit by a projectile.

In the box file at Bovington containing all the Humber manuals you will find a small booklet produced post war describing out the Humber A/C Hulls were made. It describes how one of the three manufacturers managed to strengthen this joint during manufacture without the need for this strip.

Ask Bovington for a photocopy if you are interested. There are not many pages.
