Default Cold!

It was only -16oC, but the wind chill factor made it feel like -30oC...Lucifer was acting up, so we never really got piping hot in the barn. Grant and I spent some time doing the "shelter shake", which involves shaking the frame of the five shelters to remove the built up snow. It is quite effective, but the snow builds up along the sides of the shelters.

No worrys though. Bob got a new toy today - a brand new snow blower.

Grant and Bob spent most of the morning swapping out Bob's old snowblower with the new one. Once installed, Bob gave it a good workout.

Bob really got into his work...and nearly froze his keester off, so we went to Mike's Place for some growlies. Breakfast at Mike's is served until 11:00 hrs, but we arrived at 13:15 hrs. No worries there either - Bob convinced Mike to serve up three breakfasts. He could sell icecubes to Eskimos...

After lunch, more puttering around the barn, Lucifer repairs and clearing snow. Since it didn't get any warmer, I headed out for home around 15:00 hrs and left the boys playing in the barn.

Some of the warning graphics found on the new blower:

Bob, Grant and Rob,
My apologies for not getting out there for 'snow duty'. I have spent every Saturday morning at the office getting things ready for my successor.
I have been confirmed for a Jan 27 departure for Haiti (provided I continue to pass the various physical, medical and psychological tests). I will be gone for 9 months and will be back just in time to get things ready for next winter.

Clive

Clive,

You pick the most interesting vacation spots...some of my buds just got back from Hispaniola and had a real "gas". Seems that the folk down there are still somewhat restless.

Don't worry about your shelter. I'll take care of it for a nominal fee. We can discuss at Gracies sometime in the New Year before your departure.

Default Quiet Christmas at the Barn

The boys have been busy - away from the barn. This past weekend was very quiet, except for the sound of the snow and ice slipping off of the roof of the barn. It was plus 8oC and partially sunny on Sunday. Most of the snow had turned to slush which made clearing the doors fairly easy.

I guess Bob and Grant were kept busy with the domestic chores and the duty visits. Hopefully they will chime in before we retire this thread in the New Year. In their absence, I played around with the hip ring for my HUP. I got Greg Wright to stitch up new pad covers. Greg has the pattern for the hip ring pad covers and can be reached on this Forum.

After cleaning up the rust from the hip ring, I mounted the pads.

Next week, back to the floor plates...

Default Round Hatch

Eric,

I will keep an eye out for one - they do show up occasionally but at a cost.

Rob,
So, let's organize a Gracie's Call for the week of 12 Jan. I leave for pre-deployment training on Jan 18 and fly to Port-au-Prince on 27 Jan.

Well, sort of. See the Events Section for the Gracies announcement.
