i know the top casing is different... not sure about the rest..... the casing should tig weld ok... i had a rally x box welded and it was fine matey

I just went through this myself over the summer.
A truck transmission housing will work fine. You will have to drill and tap a couple holes on the back to accept the transmission to axle adapter. The truck transmission I used had most of them already, just needed two more to complete the circle. I think I had to relocate the grease cup for the release bearing as well. Not real important mind you. By the way, you can get a really short grease gun extension hose at princess auto for a couple bucks that replaces the original hose perfectly.
