Almost, but not quite, spot on Bill. I was told the standard size / height / roof profile is so that the trucks can be freighted through the RAIL tunnels in Switzerland. The road tunnels have clearance, but you'll find on a low bed flatcar the trucks all conform to the standard rail loading / clearance guage.

Thats a very "Busy" photo, a lot going on, and plenty of slouch hats. See shots like this and always want to know who, what, why, when.
Watched the clip, always liked the look of the SMLE, bvut seeing them fitting Bayonets always makes my blood run cold.
