I also wondered about all of the early bids on the gear he had listed. You wouldn't expect people that had a real interest in the items to be bidding over and over since that only drives what they would have to pay up.
Then again, look at the nutty prices we've seen lately on carriers. Many that aren't even running or restored. The same people that are desperate to have one would probably also pay big bucks for tools and accessories. Simply because they have more money than sense and won't do a little research into what the market price is. Something to be said for offering one stop shopping. Make note of the prices since your own holdings are going up in value.

Anyone know who 8***d is? He won most of today's items.
Idler adjusting spanner: £42.50 /$67.28 (reasonable I guess, compared to whats coming up) 5 Track pins and bag: £225 / $356.17 (Incredible) Coolant drain wrench: £56 / $88.65 (Steep, when you consider BCA has them listed for $25) Track Jack: £570/ $902.30 (Unbelievable. I was embarrassed to say what I paid for mine a year ago....maybe now I'll be OK) Adjusting cam: £128 / $202 I would wager that there is one happy seller somewhere. I guess the buyers too, if it's some of their holy grails. What did we ever do before ebay? Last edited by rob love; 14-02-11 at 02:32. Reason: xx |

I hope I run into a cache of carrier stuff one day again. Quite a few years back I had lots of stuff and at todays prices I could retire early.
![]() Brian, if you're out there surfing, maybe its time to go eBay!!! ![]() As far as running up the prices, that is what we call "shilling" the bid. In auction circles while not illegal, that I know of, it is unethical. ![]() As far as carriers owners being on the MLU, I know lots of people who are mv enthusiasts who have absolutely nothing to do with any organized clubs, agencies, forums etc. It makes no sense to me but people have their reasons I suppose... ![]()

Market prices set by a few eBay sales are hard to comprehend. Lucky to those who appreciated rarity of Carrier parts in the past. So prices will change.
An old surplus dealer told me: He always charged what the Law of Supply and Demand dictated - after all he had to obey the Law. At the same time eBay buyers are just "buyers". I prefer to deal with "customers". There is a big difference. ....... Brian |

Round two completed today, and prices seemed much more reasonable. Manuals all levelled off around the $200 mark, the spindle tool sold at $98 (if I had been at the computer it may have gone higher), and the convoy tail lamp for $114. The only thing that I thought was a bit high was the 19 set front cage set at $226 and the front grab handle at $80.73.
I think seeing these items go for the prices they did, we have to thank Brian for having the foresight to have saved all the items he had, and making them available to us over the years. Anyone who thinks his prices (and for that matter, most of the ebay prices) are out of line only has to compare the prices for similar parts on today's vehicles, then remind ourselves that they still make those. That we can find parts that are nearing 70 years old in almost new condition is nothing short of a miracle. |
