Default Grant Uppers

Hi Ryan - don't hold me to it, and you may already know, I believe John Belfield has some of these. However he may be hanging onto them to finance another superannuation.

Hi Bob, I haven't tried JB yet and a probably wont. Feel I want to blaze my own trail a bit. I like the hunt too much also.
On another note I visited Jeff k while I was in SA to look at his collection. Great bloke and some nice stuff. Thanks for the connection.

Ryan, Have you contacted Bill O'Rielly yet? Bill has nearly finished his Grant and has a few wrecks around. He's in the VMVC and they are having a run to his place soon.
Rick.

Default Bill

Hi Rick, no I haven't. His name doesn't ring a bell. If you have told me in the past about him I'm sorry as it must have slipped my mind. I'm not in the VMVC, the GMRG or the KVE for that matter. Kinda silly I guess. Is Bill over my side of Vic or your side?

Default hunting

Went for a days drive around central vic yesterday with a friend to search for some tank bits. I came home empty handed but did get to speak to some great people.
One theme that was common was that of theft!
This was really surprising to me. I guess I'm still fairly new to the hobby and I had heard of theft from Murrayville but it now looks much more widespread after yesterdays conversations. And these were farms that were well hidden.
It was really disappointing to hear and quite surprising. Stories of trucks coming onto properties and oxy's being used to take the wanted bits.
It really had me thinking. I love going for a drive and knocking on doors and talking to people. I haven't had a gun pointed at me yet or nor have I been told to 'f' off. But if these low pricks keep ruining this hobby of ours by stealing off genuine people that time may soon come.
One thing we should all do to help prevent theft is never post photos of items or farms that are not ours and that we do not have permission to do so. You never know who will end up looking at them.

On a brighter note I'm charging up my Lee's batteries so I can move a 5000g water tank.

Default Theft

Hi Ryan - welcome to the real world. When I started in this hobby many years ago I also went to properties but was treated with much suspicion as no one knew me and I could have been a thief. I also dropped names of other collectors as an ice-breaker but some of those had blotted their copy books. It took me a long time to gain the confidence of collectors and now I have open access to some brilliant private collections. However I never reveal locations or publish images without the express permission of the owners.

Over the years I have warned people both on MLU and the Queensland based Military Vehicle Collectors Australia about privacy issues and some people have taken notice. I had issues with a member of the latter club who virtually stated if it was on open display it was fair game for photographs and locations. I regard this persons attitude rude and ignorant.

You will notice on my Carrier database on my website only the state is mentioned with no personal details whatsoever.

Guard your privacy and respect others as I will personally put malfactors in their place.

Bob
