I've mentioned it is a star already - do you mean Red Star as some kind on brand name?

I believe the late mark Spitfire with 5 bladed prop was photographed in Germany so I doubt the bowser has anything to do with an eastern European 'Red' Air Force - just a bit of fun I think.

Also post VE Day 1945, Yugoslavia was causing trouble with Italy disputing the border around Trieste etc so I doubt any RAF units remained in the country

OK lads : the aircraft is a Spitfie MK XIV now here is your clue it belongs to 414 Sqn RCAF. taken april 1945 at Wunsdorf Germany. The marking was common on Canadian sqns but this example is a bit smaller than normal.

Default Comical Canadians

I understand Ted

The RCAF liked to use the red maple leaf in place of the usual red dot, just to be individual in the same way the white star was often upside down on vehicle doors, just to show they were not Yanks!

Default Canadian stars

Recently posted on another forum was an order from one of the Canadian formations that the Allied star was to be painted on vehicles POINT FORWARD whereas other nations had their stars point upward. Thus explaining the skewed Canadian stars.
