If the housing on the Ford V8 is a standard quartermaster housing, then the WWII Jeep or Dodge filter element would be the same.
Yes these are bypass filters. Basically, through a restrictor, about 10 percent of the oil from the pump diverts off through the filter, and then,directly back to the sump . The element is usually finer than a full flow filter element. Most filtering systems of the WWII era were bypass systems. As is commonly known, the Jeep system, was not the best.
