Marc: If that trailer were here in Manitoba, I think I would nickle you down a bit (I am after all a Manitoban, and we make the Scots look generous) and take it. But I have no trips to Ontario/Quebec planned in the foreseeable future. |

Rob your comment makes me laugh.
A friend of mine said the other day " you know your old when the vehicles you once worked on are now gate guardians at the local base", I also am surprised that it has been declared surplus R |

Interesting to note that when the old M135s were retired in the mid 80s, they ranged from 29 to 33 years old. The MLVW fleet is now 31 to 32 years old and the replacements for the regular force trucks has still not been chosen yet as far as I know. They could well hit 38 by the time the new vehicles are fielded. Coming in behind them is the HLVW, now at 25 years old. They were great trucks in their day, but are really showing signs of their age now. |

So, I would suppose, that due to the age of many MLU members, that many are due to be "surplussed/scrapped/retired" as well......

In retrospect, I guess my surprise is really due to the fact that most of these trailers still look "good". When the 5/4 trailers were starting to go, they truly looked clapped out which made the whole transaction seem plausible.
Talking MLVW; For what its worth, our MSVS fleet is a real disappointment. I am astonished how many times we've had to have ours recovered. They are rivalling the LSVW at this point. Problem is, because they are so big, the troops can bring "the kitchen sink", so when they do go down on the Trans Canada, it becomes a logistical disaster trying to figure out what to do with all the cargo so they can get towed to the maintenance contractor. Meanwhile, I watched a guy flash up an ML the other day that had been sitting untouched since last fall (its confined to the compound). To hell with bucket seats, radio, heat and air-conditioning. Slow and steady wins the race. On the topic of Marc's trailer. I love it when people's surplus is nicer than their daily drivers ![]()

It also had television with VCR, refrigerator, electric cooking capabilities, 110/24/12V power systems, and the cargo area comfortably slept 1. Oh yeah, plenty of tooling and spare parts too. I can only imagine what I could have done with an MSVS. |

The trailer appears to have had very little service use. the interior paint and cargo floor is barely scuffed at all.
The Suzuki Swift beside it, is unfortunately dead..;-( simply from sitting (ex-wifes car) It was a 3-cyl model, but boy what a superb car, quick, nimble, and absolutely superb on gas. better than the 4 cyl model... and you could actually fit two adults and two kids, and a few bags of groceries....far far far superior to the stupid smart car. If they still built it, I would buy one.

Surprisingly, it tows easily behind my minivan (pintle equpped) although you do notice a difference in wieght from the 1/4 t trailers.. Havent tried it loaded. but dont think I would want to load it too heavily with mini van pulling. I got it more for the volume than its weight capacity.
Still avail, along with NOS 1/4 ton vinyl trailer covers (4 left)

Hi Marc: Is the trailer you are advertising equipped with surge brakes? It appears there is some sort of extra item on the tongue? Might be interested..Bob

Bob
These indeed do have surge brakes. The master cylinder is the same as that used on the M38 family of Jeeps, although the wheel cylinders are a little different. The wheel cylinders are the same used on the M101A2 and the Cdn Manac trailers. I had a quick look on the internet and the wheel cylinders are a standard brake cylinder used on civilian trailers, with a list price of around $20. http://www.etrailer.com/Accessories-.../T0977600.html Last edited by rob love; 30-05-14 at 19:03. |

If interested, I may be able to bring it as far west as Gananoque.

Have since acquired an original tongue lifting jack (for $100) so price for this very tough basically 3/4t trailer is $1600..
Trailer and 1/4 ton tarps can be delivered to Gananoque next week, (i.e. July 23 -25) or to Odessa at the Bivouac in Aug. BTW- i also have a pair of the triangular shaped headlight brackets for cab 11-12 (these are surprisingly over-engineered thick cast metal.) and a few NOS side marker/blackout light brackets for Cab 13
