I checked Servicepub's factory photos CD and only about five pictures of Cab12's show the use of side markers on the front fenders (both Chev and Ford). Four seem to show the cable fitted on top of the fender without a metal strip protecting it; Only one pic seems to show the ribs on the fenders. This is pic "AT-577", and also shows a cab 13 and Lynx, which seems to suggest the pic was taken in 1942 or later.
The pics do seem to suggest that the lights were fitted by the factory (only on the last cab12's I presume) and probably retro-fitted to cab 12's (and 11?) in the field, but I guess the parts list would mention this (?).

The markers used are not the small metal ones as fitted to the Cab13, but the bigger rubbolite units as also used at the back on cab 11/12's.
