Carrier Bolt?

It is too short for the cam plate.

It's a fitted shoulder bolt, so had something pivot/rotate around the plain part when fitted, most likely into a blind hole due to the length of the thread. Don't forget someone might of made it to replace an original they didn't have so might not look carrier. Have a good check of the camplate.

WHen I hear from him again, hopefully some more information will be forthcoming, such as size and thread pitch. I have a few more photos of it, and none of them really give an idea of scale.

I was thinking of something around the distributor, such as the bolt that the timing indicator slides on. I can't help thinking I have seen the bolt, and who knows, it may have rattled off an accessory like the Bren tripod or the pogo stick.

Thread is 5/8-18 UNF and the head is 1-1/8 size.

I would think the UNF would pretty much preclude the hull fittings, and lead toward either the engine, transmission, or differential. Or it may be off some accessory that was in the carrier.

Perhaps it is one of the bolts that hold the diff to the hull? The manual lists those as 3/4". My parts manual is at work, but the bolt looks like one of the ones that hold the differential adapter to the casing. They have a shank.

Rob, as you know a carrier has big holes in the top and little ones in the bottom because of which they are very good at being handy bins (I think they are called dumpsters in North America) It (the bolt) doesn't look like it belongs at all unless, as you say, it is from an accessory (or something has been modified)
