What have they used for a front axle under the ambulance? I have never seen a 2 wheel drive blitz before.

Rick that is a F602L, a factory built 4x2 chassis.

No joke...
There were 4X2 versions of both the long and medium wheelbase versions according to the CMP 'bible' by Bart Vanderveen. Don't know about numbers produced though.
You should have a copy of this book in your reference library!

It looks as if the 4wd hub and axle ends are still used but with a straight tube.
