Yes, this looks like Israeli stuff.
Here is similar "armoured truck": http://www.ebay.com/itm/1948-JEWISH-...item58a57c1707 What is basic truck ? British origin ? Or CMP again ? Last edited by Hanno Spoelstra; 12-10-13 at 20:29. Reason: attached picture for future reference |

My guess would be another cab 13, Chevrolet, as the grill section and engine cover seems to be unaltered. What about the truck behind it? Autocar U7144?

Last year, with the help of Dirk, I sold a 13 cab Chev to Israel to make one of these trucks. Apparently they had a good armoured body but not the rest of the truck.

Hello
An other local armoured CMP has soon been saved. With the two holes at each end of the front bumper and the shape of the front axle the truck is either an C15 or an F15. I believe that the right name was "vehicle sandwitch" because a piece of wood was inserted between two metallic plates on each side. In the museum of DAMAS in SYRIA an armoured F60L or C60L was dispalyed some time ago. Regards Serge |

Serge,
That's right, the reason these armored vehicles are referred to as "Sandwich" trucks is due to their type of armor. Shortages of proper military-grade metal armor neccesated the use of alternating layers of lower-grade metal/plywood armor. Sand, cement, rubber and even glass were also used. Many types of truck chassis were used, including 15-, 30-, and 60-cwt CMPs. See the book Military Briefs 6: Israeli Improvised Armoured Vehicles & Jeeps: 1947-1949 for more detail.

Pair of C15 4x2 trucks being converted with “sandwich armour”
Photo via Vladislav Dormann. Moshe CT commented: “Building armour on CMP trucks in Israel for war of independence 1948. Nickname "sandwich armed car" ,because the armour consistsed of 2 metal plates & a wooden plate in between . There were several types and sizes built as full armed cars & cab armour for flat bed trucks for supply convoys. You can see the "sandwich" armour plates laid in front of the trucks. The first one was called "butterfly armed car" because of the shape of the roof lids , when opened,as in the photo.”

This one I have not seen before. Based on CMP 4x4 chassis, it looks like it was inspired by the Otter LRC
