curious about their building process.......
I have seen short footage on youtube or similar of a D15 without roof and doors and kitted out like it was to cross the desert.

The D15 uses the standard WD 6.00x16" split rim, so there would be no "building process" to fit these to the Dodge axles?

Here's a D15 Tanker of the 8th Indian Div "somewhere in Italy", note the use of tire chains on the tanker.

Notice the camouflage pattern Erwin, not sure what the base color is on the truck I would hazard a guess at G3 ?? it seem a bit too dense in the photo for Light Stone

The 35 and the circle will be in red, it's a maximum road speed marking Erwin, common on early production British trucks and some but not all CMP's it tended not to bee seen on later British and Canadian trucks.

Pete, the picture you posted of the water bowser with snow chains on I think: YES.
The model picture I posted I think could rather be S.C.C.2 brown.
But as usual with colours on b/w pictures or drawings: guesses only;-)))

Default LRDG - missing link found?

Look what Iīve found on Pinterest (Source: https://pin.it/huobaqqbo7gxxu) :
an ***original picture of a "Desert D-15"***!!
So itīs no more speculation...the "black swan" truly existed;-)

Very interesting on a side note: the cargo body appears to be a field modification to allow for more space. Someone realised that the rather generous waste of space for a tire holder and spares box could be better used for the cargo body directly neighbouring to the drivers cab;-))

And I do admire the drivers: I took my D-15 2 times to a historic driversī venue at Senica/Slovak Republic ("SLOVENSKY PIESKY/SLOVAK SAND"). There is a huge military area which was used during the war by the Deutsche Afrikakorps for training as to their unique natural deep sand deposit. I found it almost impossible to drive there further into the compound without 4WD.

*******

Thank you all for contributing here and PLEASE keep on posting PICTURES of this beautiful little lorry/truck!!!!

Arenīt there any from recent British shows like War and Peace?

PLEASE continue:-) and nice Sunday
Cheers Erwin

Default Dodge D-15

The drawing above from Erwin in Post #30 comes from a catalogue of 1/35 kits I think from ESCI that was planning to produce such a kit, but did not, much to my disappointment - I guess this would have been late 1990s.

Default ESCI's Dodges

Hi Larry,

Esci's Dodges were announced in their 1977 catalogue.
Here is another hope from the same catalogue.

Herīs the drawing of the vehicle I mentioned. Always thought itīs a fantasy.
The pic of the original that Hanno put into this thread is from the former Army Museum. The latter closed years ago I believe and I think parts of it ended up in the Wheatcroft collection in Donington, Derby.
Can anybody confirm this?
If so, the LRDG D-15 could be there as well...

Hanno, I have a fellow D15 owner friend, who told me to watch the 1950's movie "Sea of Sand".
Its about a LRDG mission during WW2.
There are a number of possible D15s in the movie playing a prominent role as LRDG trucks. We have had a squabble about whether the D15s in the movie have been chopped up to look like the famous LRDG Chevies or if the D15 really was actually used for raiding by the LRDG.
I am firmly of the opinion that the the dodges have been "chevvified" for the film as the historical accuracy in the rest of the movie is a little off point.
E.G. Germans chasing the LRDG column in US international halftracks equipped with Bren guns.

As always I am happy to be proven wrong, and would love to see some photos of a "real" LRDG D15 even if the silly beggars had taken a hacksaw to those beautiful curves!

Anyway, its enjoyable movie if you can see past some of the questionable hardware.

A few screenshots for you to debate....
