I just measured mine with a Vernier and it's 6". Ron

I don't have one here to measure but ALL the real ones that I have seen are made from 1/2" x 1/8" black steel (ie. with slightly rounded edges) as in Ron's photos in post #7. I suspect that the one in post#1 is a repro as it looks to be made of 1/2" x 3/16" bar.
