Axle ratio for a C30 is 7.16:1 ( the same as a C60). I like the seat of his pants idea for knowing when to apply the gun brakes. Now, the other odd thing I have come across is that in 1940 a small book was produced for both the Chevrolet AND Ford. Just inside the front cover, it has a table of truck models. Both the C30 and the F30 are shown, as C30S and F30S. Quite how a 13 cab comes to have F30S on the plate I'm not sure, unless Ford had a load made earlier on, and where just using them up. I'll see if I can scan the page shortly.
Michel, I'm guessing your Ford is 42/43.
