In the late '90s while on exercise at Camp Blanding, Florida I was attracted by the sound of diesel engines and tracks. I happened upon the motor pool and saw approximately 100 M113's being driven and parked in rows, all with DMSO roughly painted on their sides. I inquired and was told that DMSO stood for De-Milled Struck Off service in preparation for auctioning off to the public. When I expressed interest in perhaps purchasing one, the E6 in charge told me that they were to be cut in half and sold for scrap. What a waste! I wonder how hard it would be to recover one of the hulls being dumped for a restoration project...and how many federal laws would you have to break!!!
