Larry,
Going by the fact this is in Normandy, I do not think that was a GS version of a C8, the C8GS did not come into service until late 1944. The points to look at here are the flat section front wings and the outer top of windscreen frames slightly angled in. It was a C8 Field Artillery tractor. possibly captured in Dunkirk or thereabouts.
