The 'popular' truck in this class was the Federal 604 aircraft wrecker, basically an aircraft crane truck with a fifth wheel for a big recovery trailer. There's a nice example at Duxford. Biederman did a similar fuel tank hauler, and I think the basic style was produced by several companies.
Ash-framed cab, the lumps you can see on the front bumper are air-filled shocks. Gordon
