Heads Up: CMPs for sale in Austria

Just received my copy of the March issue of Classic Military Vehicles Magazine, and looked up the link listed in an ad. Surprisingly, I came across two Canadian vehicles for sale on an Austrian MV dealer's website: a Dodge Canada T222/D15 4x2 GS Truck and a Chevrolet C60S Wrecker!

No connections with the seller.

For what it is worth: the D15 remains priced at € 8.100, but the Chevrolet Wrecker has been reduced to € 8.900.

Thanx for that link. It looks like an 4x4, isn't it? I'm only looking for a 4x2.

Austria would be close, however I unfortunately don't have the skills to restore a truck. Therefore, my CRO (Chief Restoration Officer) in Melbourne and the helpful staff in Yass ;-) will help me out.

Here's another hint. One with a wooden mallet, as we say in Dutch

Hanno: S/M 6407 is the same order my PERS-3 was built on, build date Aug 27/45. This one is 245 vehicles earlier, but does not appear to be a 'staff car' PERS-3 - wrong door and no filler piece in the door frame - or is it? Another cut-and-shut cab mod, I am supposing.

Seems like production must have really slowed down by that time - that works out to 35 HUPs a month, or just over 1 a day - did Oshawa run a continuous HUP line or just drop them in to other production on the line?

Looking at the Data Plate Hanno posted as compared to my HUP shows some interesting things:

same order number SM 6407 date of manufacture June 7/45 chassis serial number 4844520557 (498 difference) and engine serial number FR 4039351.

This makes me wonder about serial numbers seems that the numbers should be further apart.

Yes, I was missing those 1C11 body features as well. I'm sure Mr Hupmeister will comment as soon as he's back from his trip to Europe.

Interestingly, this C8A was converted into a tipper using a 15-cwt GS body which clearly has a history in the North African theatre.

I think it's an optical illusion caused by the fact that the cab has been lengthened making the truck look narrower. Also, The windscreen has been tilted to the rear and it looks like a snow plough was once mounted to the bumper. I've never seen the O P D CANADA before either. Derek.

cab has been narrowed as the 'F' has been cut off the FORD CANADA script.

attached is an unaltered one showing that the front was narrowed by cutting the centre part away.

@ Hanno; I recall that the Gemrans during WW2 had a narrowed version of their Kfz.15 (Horch) for the mountains --- due to the narrow roads.

Might be that the same idea was behind the narowing of that poor CMP. But what an effort...

Maybe somebody could ask the ower of the truck. It is to be found at:

Just a thought,but what gage railway do they have in regard to the trucks wheel track?

Upon looking at Keith's pictures it appears to have been repowered with a diesel. I can see the tell tale for the glow plugs. Also the clutch pedal appears to be missing and the throttle pedal is not original to the truck.

It would be interesting to know the history of this truck and how it was modified.

What an amazing amount of time and effort that been put into this truck, even the wings have been chopped back!. Surely it would have been easier to find something else, rather than going to all this modification work.

I agree. The early post-war Unimog comes to mind, too. . .

Ken's suggestion would be worth considering also, but I would suspect some signs of the fitting of railway wheels.
