Here is a picture of some Mk1 heat shields. The metal side goes against the hull and the asbestos side is against the mufflers. They are only held on by the muffler brackets. The square cuts outs in the sheet are for the feet of the brackets. The other holes are to clear rivet heads.
Im not sure if the Mk2 heatshields will fit a Mk1 as there are differences on that part of the hull.
