just incase i need to get another set wink wink........I suppose the sprockets and tracks should be changed as a pair ie not new sprockets on old tracks

I would say the sprockets and track have got some life left in them. Remember how many miles do you think you will go in a carrier?. After 100yds your be deaf, your bum will be num and your probable have cramp in both legs.

I have a drawing to have sprockets made, not expencive or difficult.

ah lovely stuff then Barry.

so your not up for a trip up through Italy with me landing at Salerno ending at Monte Cassino ? would be good if Kevin, Martyn, Shaun, Nigel, You, and me could get all the carriers in convoy...... i reckon the Italians may get a sad on over it though.

this one looks to be a go'er but await the track count before full funds transfer (i have paid deposit which will be returned if the tracks are caput) so yes it looks like i now have a Mk1 carrier (pending the results of the above enq) basically it is a bare tub but a pal has scourced me a load of stuff for it. Shuan was mentioning that the track looks to roll in over which suggests its finished (worn pin lugs)

I would guess from those sprockets, that the track is pretty badly worn. when they sit around for a few years the rust tightens them up, and the look pretty good...... In your words "Caput"

Default Track wear-

The real measure for track wear is the angle that the tracks sit on when viewed from the rear, The individual pads should lie parallel to the ground, a moderatly worn set will start to tip in towards the dif. equal wear = equal angles. Worst case is tracks which both tip to the left or right indicating a cobbled set of tracks.

Regardless, you may have as many as 1000 k of use/wear left on a worn set.

You are going to learn - fast- that screaming down the road in top gear and full throttle is a very reckless activity in a vintage carrier (oxymoron I know) when all that is at stake is dismemberment and probably death.

The end state here is that a worn set is not a show stopper. You will find a set later and bolt them on if you need them. Base your purchase on the rest of the machine.

Dont get me wrong i wouldnt be going flat out or anything daft, perhaps stretch her out accross my mates farm but nothing daft.

i thought you would have to guage the build on its running gear, as most other bits dont cost so much to replace / find ? i dont know guys thats why i am here after all.

the armour is all sorted and i have access to a hydraulic press and oxy torch for the rivets. and having seen what Martyn has done with two scratch built carriers (ie from only having road wheels and tracks) i feel this one is very dooable now, but we will see.
