Actually, if authenticity is important to you, you might want to find some rope made from Hemp. Manila rope was made from a plant related to the Banana and came from the Phillipines. After the Phillipines were overrun, the United States temporarily shifted to rope made from hemp. I assume that there were problems for the Commonwealth countries in finding supplies of the Abaca plant also.
Having said that, and due to the fact that the DEA takes a dim view of any plant of the Cannabis family, I use Manila rope for my CMP. My rope is approximately 50 feet long and has a nominal diameter of 15/16". It's commonly available here in Texas at any Home Despot (sic) or Lowe's.
