mk1 canadian carrier jack block

hi all, I have been serching the forum for info on the carrier jack wooden block and plate, i am in the process of completing the jack holder, (metal angle iron part). I have seen a few pictures on the forum of carrier jacks and phot's in Nigels book, their appears to be different types.

Has anyone got detailed shots of the correct jack for my carrier?, does that wooden block part also fit the T16, is it the same?.

The jack angle iron holder is 1 1/2" tall and there are two rear corner triangle brackets sitting on top of the angle iron, were their cutouts in the wood to accept these, the reason i ask is because the wooden part with plate which slides in seems taller than 1 1/2"

I have looked in the canadian Mk1 (ucf1) and the picture of the block does not have the corners cut off. Maybe your bracket is for the british jack/ I will endevour to get a photo of the jack and bkt. tomorrow.

thanks for that. I have made a jack angle iron holder to the specifications of Bruce Parkers holder. Jordan Baker has the same holder but with the rubber strap, Brucers has the webbing strap, i have an original webbing strap so have gone for Brucers, he sent me a first rate drawing. I need a Canadian wooden holder with Canadian Jack.

I am the owner of that particular block/ pics, and I hope you can use the pictures to build your own! I will try to ident the type of wood that was used and advise. If you require any other close up pics of tools and accessories please ask, as I am completing a colour reference book for tools/accessories etc for the Canadian Bren Carrier MKII. I am also looking for the hydraulic jack for same. Regards

Hi, Many thanks for the reply, Colour pictures of the carrier tools would be fantastic, I have already got the track Jack, track pin punch, Tool for undoing the block drain taps and folding saw and crank bar/handle.
Any other pictures posted to kevinpowles@btinternet.com would be great.
Have you dimensions please and pics of the track jack handle, it is missing from mine.

I have a pile of CNo.7 .22LR rifle chests made of Eastern black or white spruce/ red or white pine/ GOK* fir. That wood has a similar deep tone to the 60yr old patina of the chests. With cross-grain wood and various steel reinforcements, it seems reasonably durable. Wooden chests and boxes were a well-known commodity in those days, and the plants knew which boards to use where.

I don't see any open pores like oak, which would be red oak if used. If it is hardwood, maple and birch are very common species.

Could this be a Canadian carrier jack?, Its the red coloured one. I have included a shot of a jack with wooden block in a tools photo thread on this site and an original photo of one. I guess they were not all the same, base measures 3 1/4" by 5 1/2", 9" tall when fully lowered, dated 1929.

I have shown my original jacking block to a number of "wood" guys and the consensus is that the it is made from Hard Maple
