Hello All,
After managing to open the locked glovebox I found amongst other things an identification plate which warns against over loading and speeding which will void warranty - not a big worry now. The plate also mentions the Tare and Aggregate limits. There a drill holes in each corner of the plate. Where would this identification plate have been situated in the Chevrolet Holden? I deciphered another identification plate which I describes the paint colour as "Khaki" and the year of manufacture as 1940. So it looks like that with the original colour and it beiing Australia's second year into WWII that the truck started life as an Army vehicle from day one. This makes it a lot easier in deciding what colour to paint the truck when I get to that stage. Kind Regards Lionel Last edited by Lionelgee; 08-08-09 at 04:23. |

Hello All,
I hunted around in the daylight and found where this plate belongs. It once was on the driver's side firewall above the steering column. The three plates on the firewall read... Firewall Plate No: 1 Holden’s Body No: K5872 Model: CHEV CAB Series: 1940 Job No: - Firewall Plate No: 2 Colour DLX KHAKI Batch No: - Date: KO Firewall Plate No: 3 Caution! Over loading or over speeding Will void your warranty CHASSIS: 5200 MAXIMUM WEIGHT IN POUNDS: 3400 GROSS WEIGHT: see note: 11500 MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE GROSS WEIGHT INCLUDES CHASSIS BODY AND ALL LOADS AND IS SUBJECT TO THE UNIT BEING EQUIPPED WITH WHEEL AND TYRE EQUIPMENT OF ADEQUATE CARRYING CAPACITY GENERAL MOTORS – HOLDENS LTD. So how many ton is 3400 pounds and 11500 - I only know metric so how many ton truck would this be? I drive a VN Commodore is this Chevrolet Holden known as a "K" series Chevrolet? |

Ratster, do you have a name and location? We have no mystery guests here.
I can't help with much else, but the S in the in the serial indicates it was made in GM/H's Pagewood plant in Sydney. Some photos of your truck would assist in identifying it better. |
