Rick:
Your carriers are gorgeous, they are far from rough shape. Most are cut down to next to nothing. You have a very nice collection there. I look forward to seeing your progress on them.

Rick i fitted the templates on the sides and they appear spot on i took some pics however my pc is dead so i have had to resort to using my mobile phone to access the web ! I have a query on the gunners side where the armour drops (where it meets the front cockpit) it lines up spot on with the center bulkhead plate can you check this on your carriers ?

Replied to your email Rick, thanks for getting back to me. It appears that the patterns are spot on, if you send me the others i will cut them out as per the sides and get them fitted. if you manage to get the center bulkhead measured i would be interested in this too as this is the major bit i need. i am going to salvage my glacis plate.

cheers

Richie

Default Plate is flush to front

The side armor stops flush with driver side of plate #; CTL 13284 (Plate - division – corner) as you can see in the photos. I’ve included my updated side armor drawings as well. I believe the drawings to be fairly accurate however I leave them open to the forums critique. I’m working on the bulkhead drawings I will provide them when complete.

I’ve been provided with the cost of side armor cutting, the quote is $105.00 CND funds per side. Steel will be an extra cost. Does the amount sound reasonable (this will include rivet holes)? How does this compare with other suppliers?

Rick you listed the armour thickness as 10mm can you tripple check this as my carrier remnants are thinner stuff. the front armour is 10mm though.

just measured the bits with a Micrometer and:-

Glacis plate is 5mm

Front armour is 10mm

center bulkhead (main section) is 5mm

Side and rear armour is 7mm

this is on a 1942 canadian Mk1 that i have.

Default Richard

The thickness of the armour varies. I have front armour from a Canadian Mk1, and front armour from a British mk1. Both are different. The mcDell boys had some plates cut out with a veiw to using the original steering box fabrication. It didnt work and they had to go for the thinner plate. (same as original)
I think I have reported this correctly. If your following this Greg or Chris, come in and explain.

Default Side Armor Order

Finally…we’re starting the laser cutting of a few plates, and covers for the carriers! All the measurements were taken off a Mk 1 carrier…perhaps anyone who might know what parts are interchangeable with a Mk2 could comment.

The laser cutter company is ready to cut both sides (CTL 12774 D Plate - protection - L.H. & CTL 12775 D Plate - protection - R.H.) and is waiting for quantity. The cost per side is 220.00 CND funds for pick up in Edmonton or Three Hills Alberta, Canada. The plates will be cut to dimension and have rivet holes cut out. If you’re interested you can PM me or email to stuff4rick@gmail.com.

I have provided the below original parts to the laser cutting company, they are confirming measurements will then format part drawings and I expect quotes shortly, so assess your needs and I will provide costs as they come in.

ENGINE VENTILATOR
CTL 7252 Plate - engine ventilator deflector
CTL 12770 L Plate - engine ventilator - rear L.H.
CTL 12771 L Plate - engine ventilator - top L.H.

Default Cad Drawings

Is there anyone who will send me the cad drawings, as freight costs for the finished product to here would be horrendous. I need to do all the front armour. Thanks.

Email adress matey. If you email Rick he may give you the front DXF's alternate i will get another card tube and start plotting......takes me ages to draft them out though..i need to do a set for one of the lads here to CAD up. Mind folks looking at Ricks prices if you are on the same peice of rock / country as him that is a pretty good price

also Rick i would not cut the lower edge holes... most folk still have these frame rails on their carriers, cut the others but not the bottom edge...its better to offer the plate up and drill them, that way any discrepancies between machines wont throw the holes out of kilter......so to speak.

great work though buddy well done
