Bonjour Jason
The topic of differential lockers has been raised before for Chev trucks but I can't remember if the Ford models were ever discussed. At MLU you are tapping into a world wide data based of real live CMP experts. It would be helpful if we knew which part of the world you reside as it will have an impact on parts availability or shipping costs for such heavy items. Since a lot of us are illiterates, we would love to see a picture of the famous F60L in living color as well as a history of the vehicle. Boob Hammond, Ontario .....just a slide East of Ottawa

Gday Bob
I am located in Perth Western Australia. I will try and dig out some of our old restoration photos and post them over the next couple of days. Cheers Jason Fontana |

...... postage is going to kill you unless you find something inside Australia.
I done work on lots of old Dodges civvy and military..... i personally never heard much on any kind of diff. lock for the old Ford split axle set up..... May I ask why you feel you will need differential losks front and back....? Here in Canada with the frequent slippery surfaces we always stayed away from locked diff. because on a side slope if both front and rear start slipping/spinning you start moving sideways down the side hill very fast..... while if at least one or two wheels are not slipping you tend to hold fast..... you may not move forward much but at least it keeps you out of the ditch. I know as I drove a Dodge M 37 on a clay farm road and promptly skidded into a ditch because of the reverse pitch in a curve ans stupid military bar thread tires..... no damage but got bitten by the farmer's dog that pulled me out...... it would have been crude to shoot the bitch..... Will be following the thread to see if they do exist for Ford early split axles. Boob

Just because they are mentioned in a parts catalog doesn't mean they are about in any large numbers, I know I've never seen or heard of one either! If you'd rather not track down 65 year old specialised driveline equipment, and you're willing to shell out some 2009 dollars, Locked Drive Systems use Eaton Locker centres and machine up hemispheres for local applications, generally for 4wd applications, as most large trucks will have a direct replacement unit from Eaton in the NoSpin range. If you wanted to go this way, you'd have to crack open your diff and measure the internals. CMP axles and side gears are 1.75" and 16 spline, a size that is not readily used these days, but at least a NoSpin will drop into the existing housing and not require new parts. An odd relic of the times that they were made, but CMP ring gears are secured to the hemisphere by Rivets, rather than Bolts. If you could identify a similar modern differential by dimensions (ie poss Dana 70, or Sterling, etc), you might be able to upgrade to bolted ring gears (with macthed new pinion).
