Can anyone identify these metal boxes.
They are from an regional city in Queensland Australia where there were up to 60 000 US Troops Stationed during the Pacific campain. A camp site existed about 8 klm from my property and I believe an artillery unit was stationed there, I was told some equipment was recovered many years ago including a damaged Boyes. Under the white paint is standard WW2 army green. they have captured nuts on some mounting holes and the doors are hindged piano type. While I say Top, Rear etc they could have been mounted in any orientation, the divider has about a 1/3 round fold to provide strength so I assume the way it is standing is top or bottom You can still see the 3 mounting frame positions across them and that side is flanged. It looks as though the mounting could be like a folded fuel tank mount type.

Hi Ray,
The tool box is off a Blitz (CMP) truck. The box was located behind the cab and was mounted with the spare wheel. The whole in the top are for the POW can racks. The tabs that stick up on the top should be flat to hold the racks.

![]() ![]() Thanks Euan, I have only just joined MLU a couple of days ago so only very new to MLU. Have seen lots of CMPs in my travels but usually stripped down to basics for other uses. I picked up 2 of these boxes at an auction about 8 years ago. They are in very good nick for their age and one has had the flange edge folded up but I have them on the top of my tray truck for storage at the moment. Nice to know I have something CMP as well as Post WW2 vehicles. Any close up pics around?? and which model did they come with?? PS what are POW cans??

Hi Ray
Welcome on MLU. POW means Petrol, Oil & Water. Here are two pics of restored toolboxes. The big one happens to be Euan's for his F60 project, with a spare wheel carrier mounted next. I think yours is the small box for a 15cwt Blitz. Greetings from Switzerland Chris

Thanks Chris
I now discover I have more bits as the POW racks (2) were included in the sale lot. I am sure I put them in the shed, not knowing what they were for and thinking possibly a battery holder. I will go and see if I can find them.

Ray,
The chain is to hold the flat bar that goes across the top of the rack to secure the can. The only difference between C/F15 and C/F60L spare wheel carrier is the larger truck has a ramp/ladder stored under the tool box and spare wheel. The tool box is the same on both.

Thanks Euan
I can see and understand that now, looking at the pic of your box and carrier that Chris put up. LOL - I looked in my sheds but did not find the rest of a CMP so I will have to just find one. I do have a very original Maintenance Manual MB-C1 Dated April 1942 Printed in Canada that I bought as a teenager, so I am also prepared.

![]() Thanks for the warning Euan. ![]() Did it come with a clutch that started hatching early or was it multiple live births or just a good Catholic collection ![]() ![]() So tell "what is the best protection other than ![]() ![]() I allready have enough projects lined up for a couple of lifetimes so another should not change the stats very much. ![]() I remember seeing a couple in the bush and town a couple of years ago so will check out when I get some time. Mind you you need a lifetime or two to absorb the quantity of good information and knowlege on this forum. PS have decided that the manual must be an attrctant given I have collected the tool box and POW holders without knowing they were CMP or maybe it was just the Green paint???
