It is finally driving and extremely fast and responsive. I am really happy I chose the windsor engine and auto trans. Just some cosmetics and cammo paint and its all done and on to the next project.

Good morning and thankyou for your comments. I am looking forward to corowa myself and let some other collectors have a drive just to experience the difference with a powerfull engine and an auto trans. You don't have to worry about the correct revs for gear changing. You can consentrate on where you're going and enjoy the ride. I know Tony Smith said you can't beat the sound of a side valve but my carrier sounds like an old GT falcon. I'll put some more pics after its all repainted and accesserised which won't take long.

Hello everyone.
An Australian pattern 3" mortar carrier 99.5% complete.. Aircraft in the back drop are 1947 devons ( ex N.Z.Airforce) and behind that is Adelaides Edinburgh RAAF base. This is a great place to live. Colin. |

Very impressive now that its all tricked out. The welding work was amazing on it's own as it has progressed but seeing it all together is fantastic.
I'm guessing the base plate on the off-side was in case the WWII crews needed to dismount the mortar. Out of curiosity, how many 3-inch bomb carrier sets would be transported in the side racks? My T-16 is evolving into a 4.2-Inch carrier and will require twelve of the larger bomb carrier sets on each side over the tracks. I can find the 3-inch variants here but the 4.2-inch types don't exist so I'll end up having to fabricate them.

Hi Keith,I will see you there at corowa and I do like the cammo. Its a shame it was'nt ready when you were here as I would have taken you for a ride.
Hi Dave, It carries 108 mortars ( 52 each side ). The base plate is for dismounted use. I do have an original, but a different style so I fabricated that one as per the pictures I have. It is a very uncommon style. I must also add i'm very impressed with your carrier and standard of workmanship. regards Colin. |

I hope you don't mind me using your carrier as the basis for one of my tees. Colin, would you like me to credit/mention your name in the description? Ryan http://www.redbubble.com/people/ryno...arrier-variant |

Beautiful.. Curious about the two round little "barrels" mounted on the front, engine side.. They look like a double ended 12 volt blower fan for engine cooling..which way do you have the air moving for the engine compartment..??In the front..which would make the front squirrel cage fans suck and the rad fan blow..out into the mortar compartment..or suck from there ..across the engine and out the front.. one way or the other would work..great job..just looking at the engineering..and the trades craft..beauty.. And the engine and transmission engineering..could you expand a little on that.. Fit like glove..!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Ha! If only. That's assuming I'd sell one. I make these tees just to buy them myself for something different. I have sold a few Blitz truck tees however which is fun. Last year at Corowa I even ran into someone wearing one!

Hi Ryan, no need to mention my name. Great to see my little machine is remembered, in fact I had it out for a spin last friday and it still drives and goes great. I am going to pop the engine and tranny out to stop an oil leak. Apart from that it's all good.
Hi Alex, the engine is a standard 302 windsor with a c4 trans. They are a perfect match for the carrier, and yes it fits like a glove in there. I'm in the process of doing the same thing to a 2lb tank attack carrier. regards colin! |
