Default Mk 1 carrier in water?

Does anybody know what they did with the 2 openings on the lower back of the hull to prevent the water from rushing in?
Derk.

Default Kapok floats

Would you think that they just let water come in as they still could carry it with the water in it .There would be a bigger problem getting it in and out of the water George
