Yes that's an engine number beside the order number. A Sydney assembled vehicle, it typically doesn't have a build date.
How are you going to eliminate them? One mouthful at a time, like those people who ate cars for a stunt?
WO71 is a new one for the list too.

I wish someone would come up with the decoder for all that stuff!

This is a prime example of the change-over at the time of the Plate designs...Regina had closed June 1941 anyway.

Can you confirm the serial and engine number prefix please on the top plate? Is it SR3..... or PR3........??

I take it in this conversation about CMP database that those held by John Marchant have been added. He published several in his booklet "Work and Play with ex-Military Vehicles". In it there are 21 Fords and 27 Chevys.

These damn Chevs are everywhere. This plate is off one of two C15s owned by one of our members. It is a Regina plate.

Nigel, if you have details of the plates in the book I should like to check that I don't have them please.

1942 MODEL CMps had SR, PR and WR prefixes...depending on intended end-user chassis I suppose though they did get mixed-up in assembly.

I know how painful it is for you to look at thngs Chevrolet...
Interestingly it is the second C15 WO1 reported - the other belongs to Rod Diery. Does it have it's original timber body? Was there a "M" on the end of the chassis serial?
Below are the two on record. The serials are close and Rod's is also a SR prefix.

This member has two C15s. The one in the Museum has a rebuilt timber body, the other one I'm not sure about at this stage. There was no indication of place of manufacture on the chassis serial. Guess the stamper forgot. The only clue may be that this Regina plate is made from thin alloy whereas the other Regina plate I posted the image of is made of a sturdier metal.

Can I just confirm, in case a wrong impression might creep in in due course, that Regina, Saskatchewan, GM of Canada Plant did not assemble any military trucks. It closed in July 1941 and was then turned over to a new Crown Corporation, REGINA INDUSTRIES LIMITED, producing munitions.

..the OSHAWA WALKERVILLE REGINA plate came in in 1929 and was used until 1942. However it was anachronistic because Regina opened 1929, closed 1930, re-opened and closed 1931 and then re-opened 1938 and closed 1941. They still used the plate though! Walkerville's assembly was also spasmodic..1929-32 or say 1937 and that was it! After 1935 Walkerville was of course part of the new city of Windsor, and again the plates were anachronistic as the Canadian Products plant became 'Windsor Transmission Plant'. In addition there was also McKinnon Industries Limited in St Catherines, Ontario, although it was never an assembly plant.

If you ever did find a 1938-41 GM of Canada vehicles assembled in Regina, then the plant code '8' appears after the model code, whereas Oshawa was '0'.

This chassis number is four BEFORE one listed on Keith's database and the engine number is four AFTER. This chassis was a 158" with winch.

Guys Mike Cecil told me in an email about the Airborne GMC's GHM converted for the US & AIF some time ago that the bulk of the GMH archive records were held at the South Australian Libary or an Annex thereof.

Maybe Bob could check for us?

Hi everyone,
Yesterday I visited Rob Endersbee in Merredin, Western Australia. This C60L is one of those that Rob is restoring for the Bruce Rock Shire near Merredin. Post war, the truck was a fire truck in Bruce Rock. The data plate photo didn't come out but I got the numbers.

This data plate was one a wireless van cab in Rob's yard. I aplogise for the quality of the pic. I'm trying out a new camera. Note that there is no date of manufacture.

When I go to get my D60L next week from Barry Peterson in Newcastle I will get the numbers of his "B" serial suffix blitz/s which I noted last time I was there.

By the Way. I have just had another rush of blood to the head and bought an old Volvo F86 8 wheeler with 5 ton crane in Adelaide. Will be driving from Adelaide to Victoria next week and happy to carry a load for someone if dates and places suit.

Picking up the insane purchase you know about (1959 Thornycroft prime mover "Like a railway cup of tea - very big but very weak") in Corowa, dropping it at Barry's place in Newcastle and loading the D60L for Brisbane.

The Thornycroft is driveable so if a keen person with a set of ear plugs and about 7 months to spare to cover the 1,000km from Newcastle to Brisbane wants a drive let me know.
