Default What Does This Come From?

Hi all - help needed again. What is the home for this can? I didn't photograph the front but it appears it had a tap that has been removed and plugged.

Default Afv

It appears to be the crew water container from INSDIDE a british AFV. I have seen a slightly larger and different one here in Perth. My best guess is that it's from a coventry or daimler armoured car. And it's rare.

Cheers

Phill

Default Ok... this'll sound far fetched

Bob - is there anything to indicate what country it originated from???

Its shape and the crease's in the metal make it look awfully like the containers on the rear of some the German tanks - a Panther for one.

Hi guys - thanks for your suggestions to date.

Tim - do yours have taps?

Tony - nothing to indicate a country of origin. The scripting you see on the images is as good as it gets.

Phill - I think we all agree, armoured water container. Big question, from what.

Bob

It's definately British, the Centaur and Cromwell drinking water tanks also have an MC prefix part number. It would have had a tap originally.

It's not Daimler AC or Coventry, Matilda possibly? It's not shown in the instruction book and I don't have a parts list.

Unhappy

Hi all - been trawling an extensive modelling site, Armorama, that show the complete kit componants for their models. Did the Matilda, Centaur, Cromwell, Coventry and Stuart, but no cans of this shape came to light.

Hi Guys,
having a read it says AUST after some numbers, therefore a, water? container of Australian origin. Interestingly it has what appears to be Melbourne on there and WT, weight? Perhaps it is from an aircraft?
Cheers,
Dave

Hi Bob

I will check mine this week and see if a tap is present... Got mine on ebay and was sold as being for stuart, the seller had two Stuarts at one time.

Hi all - well popular belief suggests this is a crew water supply can out of a Stuart Tank. If everybody is happy we will leave that as the result.

I found this object sitting in a Saracen. Looks very similar although it does appear to hold cables of some type. This may give a clue to it's origin.

My 2 cents,
Ebay username "Herculesxl" ( or something similar ) from hazelwood in victoria sells these every now and then and lists them as a water container from a stuart or grant tank. He had one up just last week.

A good buy I reckon Colin. Did you happen to get the other MG ammo container he was selling too?

Ah ha. I wasn't that far off with the name.
He seems to come up with quite a few good items.
