According to my old microfiche that is a bracket to mount a jerry can bracket to the side of an M38A1.
And by coincidence I have the mod instruction to mount this bracket. Here is the jist of the instruction. Last edited by rob love; 18-12-10 at 14:43.

Saw one on a 1/4 ton CLAK once. It helped as we stood on the jerry can as often as sat on it. Jerry can seat on one side, spare tire seat on the other.
