Default Something about MV events and new paving.

Hi Richard

I had to laugh at "Always wondered how much attention the council payed after they decided to resurface the the road to the Airport on the same day as the parade for Year of The Bren Gun Carrier." because there is something about new pavement and MV events.

Every year the State is doing paving work on one or the other of the major roads leading to the rally site and they always are having the traffic drive on the side they just laid and rolled. Non-directional tires leave such a lovely imprint. Whats really a laugh is you'll come along the next year and the tire marks are still there.

Corowa really sounds like a great event, I've enjoyed the videos.

Cheers

For those who missed the MLU photo hopefully you are able to mak it next year at 12.30pm on Saturday 17th March. It would be good to know who was there at the event but forgot about the MLU photo.

I'm sure I stood in the back row during the MLU photo. It would appear that after the pic was taken and I left the group staged another pic without me.

Euan

I was in the 2010 pic and remember somewhere between 3 and 5 people taking the pics. Yet I have only seen the one that was posted on MLU.

The trick is, to wait for the "official" photo to be taken and then you can wander off. No idea how to tell who the official is though.

I note that after last year's extended photo session, almost everyone has hats on this year, good to see.

Regards
Doug

Yeah Euan, you might be right... I now recall that there was actually two "MLU" shoots when someone turned up & missed the first shoot...
When Keefy is back he'll post the other one that Richard took I'm sure.

Thanks Robert, I was thinking that I may have been in Adelaide all weekend and missed the event.

Default Corowa 2011 report in Vintage Roadscene

I have just had an article on Corowa 2011, published in the UK magazine, Vintage Roadscene. It covers six pages with all colour photos. Should be on the newsagents shelves now.

Default Vintage Roadscene issue 140

Forget the out of date pic! It's issue 140 you want...is it the July issue? Copies can be purchased:

http://www.ianallanmagazines.com/vintage.php

And there's an e mail address to use to ask for any back copies with Richard's articles in them.

It is a council "thing" worldwide apparently. When we were in Oxford, England in 2000 (doing the Beltring thing) the local council were doing major road works in the city centre - at the height of the summer tourist season. The congestion was unbelievable. The locals told us it happens every year.

In Oxford, uni students are banned from having cars, so outside of tourist season the roads are much quieter as the uni students are on push bikes, foot or public transport. The ideal time to do road maintenance one would have thought.

As to Corowa, February would be ideal bitumising weather............ and nicely avoid a hundred or more MVs heading for the airport.

Regards
Doug
