Does anybody knows if the C8A HUW was equiped with a Wavemeter as a standard item or not?

Your second attached thumbnail is of an RT-246/VRC Receiver-Transmitter.

This is, as indicated on the nameplate, part of the AN/VRC-12 family of field tactical radios.

The RT-246 is the same size as the RT-524 and fits into the MT-1029 Tray, Mounting.

The RT-246 has an automatic turning system which is controlled by front panel push buttons, where the RT-524 does not. The RT-524 has a loudspeaker, the RT-246 does not.

The RT-246 was typically used in the AN/VRC-43, -44, -45 Radio Set configurations.

AFAIK, Canada did not use the RT-246.

The American BC 221 was far superior in every aspect .. a top quality bit of gear .. The class C wave meters were a bit of junk in comparison, but would have been issued as part of the kit .

I guess it was tested but never brought into service in Canada, as mentioned.

As MLU seems to be running well, could a Wireless forum/Post WW II Sigs forum be created? In searching for radio related posts, they are scattered all over. I would like to do a series of posts on Post WW II Sigs equipment. My own interest is the Iltis period (Bosnia/Croatia) of radio gear and how to do a correct installation.

One could have two forums, one for the Wireless gear of WWII such as the 19 set and variants, and then the Post WW II Sigs equipment of the Cold War Period.

Your thoughts........

Somewhere to discuss Wireless/Signals equipment on this site would be a great addition!

Just to clarify the discussion so far, is the intent a fully independent Forum, or simply an addition to this site, such as we now have for Sappers, Gunners? Stikes me that the latter approach would be a heck of a lot simpler for the powers that be to accomplish for us, and it definitely gets my vote!

Hi Mike.

Ever noticed that whenever one of these vehicular wireless sets (including the 19) are actually in use in a vehicle, there is only one person in the photo, but as soon as it is set up somewhere outside, it suddenly becomes a group photo. I wonder if there is a weight to manpower ratio yet to be discovered in some Sigs Pam somewhere???

We try to accomodate these sort of requests if possible, but first we need to figure out how to set this up, plus iron out a few other bugs.

Thanks for your input and I hope you can wait a little longer. Meanwhile chatter on about wirelesses, we can always move it over later.

Yes , you are correct.

The coastwatcher radios used up in the SW Pacific Islands required a whole team of native carriers to lug around the AWA teleradio , batteries and ancilleries like the petrol battery charger. This was the downfall of a few coastwatchers when the natives betrayed them to the Japs . Usually it was a execution by beheading .

I'd love a good wine, but what I really need is help with figuring out how to add another forum to the main page. If you or anyone else has some spare time to get oneself acquainted with vBulletin, the software this forum runs on, please do and post your findings here. Hey all There is a nice Wireless set #62 on ebay right now in Niagrafalls.
It was the replacement for the # 22 but only used late 1944 and 1945

But for anyone looking to kit their vehicle for those war years, Take a look.

Oh yeah I was speaking to a seller from the states on Ebay and he has 3 #19 sets coming up for sale as well as misc bits. Just bought a Dynometer from him but missed out on the base! He does ship outside the US just ask.

And I also would be interested in a wireless section on MLU. When things calm down on the site for poor Hanno!

I had forgotten about this thread until earlier this evening when I was reading through my newly arrived Fair Radio Catalog WS-11, celebrating their 64th anniversary. Scanning through their Vintage Equipment Section I ran across the above noted items for only $275.00 US. I think it has been nearly 40 years since they last offered this equipment.

They are also offering complete SCR-625 Mine Detectors for the first time in a while and 10-Line British Switchboard Sets complete with manuals.

Must have found an old warehouse somewhere.
