The AA leg came in two parts that slid into the tubes on the sides of the triangle making up the main frame. Once removed and joined, they made the third leg that fastened into a slot just under the pivot. By design or accident, the slot is exactly the same as the bayonet for an Enfield 'SMLE' rifle. If you lost a leg section, your No.2 could substitute his rifle for the third leg (see attached). The bad news is that there are Mk.1 tripods that have provision for the AA leg and Mk.II's that don't.
