Let us have a closer look at the ATS: From left: A Private a Subaltern (1st Lt, a 2Lt was called Second subaltern) and a Sergeant. What I don´t understand are all these organizations. ATS = Auxiliary Territorial Service - Transport Service. OK. But there were also Women´s Transport Service (FANY) and Women´s Motor Transport Corps (MTC). Did British motorized women fight a civil war of their own within WW 2?
